Canada developed a full spectrum solar battery - News - Current Affairs

According to the American physicists organization nets, June 27, (Beijing time) reports, Canadian scientists say they developed a new style of the full spectrum of solar battery, its not only can absorb from the sun visible light, and also can absorb not visible light, and in theory, conversion efficiency can be as high as 42%, more than the existing ordinary solar cells of the 31% theory conversion rate. Research published in the latest issue of the journal nature photonics.

This gel quantum dot (based on the efficient CQD) combination of solar cells by Canadas chief nanotechnology scientists, Toronto university of electronic and computer engineering professor SaJin teds leadership of the scientific research group developed by. The thesis mainly WangXiHua (transliteration), said the solar battery consists of two absorb light layers: a layer is a used to capture from the sun visible light; And another layer can capture from the sun is not visible.

SaJin, said that in order to do this, the team with the nano materials into a series called grading of equipment, can restructuring layer round-trip transport layer and not visible light visible light between the layer of electronic, effectively will capture the visible absorption layer and capture not visible absorption layer together, in this case, two layer suction light are not required to compromise.

The research team used in CQD manufacturing solar cells battery in the nanometer material CQD take the lead, is easy to be a specific wavelength of visible light to and not visible to react. The new series CQD solar cell capture of the waves of light wavelength range than ordinary solar cells, so more inclusive, in theory, its conversion rate can amount to 42%; By contrast, the best single solar cell of the biggest conversion rate is only 31%, but are generally located on the roof or everyday consumer products in the solar cells conversion rate is only 18%.

Develop effective and reasonable cost of the solar cell is a globals challenge. SaJin, says: global all need the efficiency of conversion from more than 10% of the solar laptop battery, and hope can significantly reduce the retail price of existing pv. The latest progress provides a feasible way, the best to capture all the light from the sun, is expected to improve conversion rates and reduce the cost.

SaJin, hope, in five years, will be the new classification of restructuring layer solar cell integrated into the building materials, mobile phones and auto parts.
